East hasn't a sensible rebid available at the 2 level so 1NT must be the obvious opening bid. Over that you can jump to 3C forcing, and East will no doubt bid 3NT, which is the best of all possible final contracts, with only 2 top diamonds to lose. If defenders don't find a diamond lead 3Nt+3 will gain a few match points. Those in a slam making are jammy bastards. A reverse is never a jump: a reverse would be an auction like 1C 1S 2H. Your hand is strong enough to jump shift, but I probably would have rebid 2NT over 1H. That gets your shape (semi-balanced) and values (19 HCP) across immediately, and many players have some sort of checkback mechanism to still uncover the spade fit.

Partner should not raise to 3S without 4 trumps. I agree 3C is the proper rebid, which allows opener to define what sort of hand he was jump-shifting on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
